Direct Thermal and Thermal Transfer Options for Desktops
The Zebra GX Series printers are among the most feature-loaded models in Zebra’s performance desktop lineup. The GX420 is available in two versions: the GX420d for direct thermal printing, and GX420t for thermal transfer printing. Direct thermal printers tend to be more economical, as they do not require a ribbon, saving both costs and time, buy they are best for labels that do not have a long shelf life or are not exposed to the elements. Thermal transfer printers use a ribbon and produce a crisper image that is more resistant to environmental factors such as sunlight or surface friction. They are ideal for high-density barcodes and can print on a wider range of media.
Small Printers, Big Value
Whether you choose direct thermal or thermal transfer, the Zebra GX Series is suitable for printing labels, tags, and receipts for a variety of applications, including healthcare, retail, and light manufacturing and warehousing. The GX420 offers high-performance features in a compact, clamshell design. Print width is 4 inches, with a resolution of 203 dpi and best-in-class speed of 6 inches per second. Serial, USB v.1.1, and parallel connectivity options are standard, and the parallel port can be replaced with Ethernet or 802.11b/g or Bluetooth 2.o for extra flexibility. And for even sharper small labels, the GX430 is a thermal transfer desktop printer that shares the features of the GX420 but has a slightly lower print speed (4 inches per second) and higher resolution of 300 dpi.
